Biography
Fellowship-trained, evidence-driven spine care.
Erik Gerlach, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with Indiana Spine Group, treating conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine at the Carmel and Greenwood offices.
His clinical practice spans disc herniations, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, cervical myelopathy, spine trauma, and spine tumors, along with artificial disc replacement, revision spine surgery, and complex deformity and scoliosis correction. His stated approach is non-operative management whenever appropriate — starting with an accurate diagnosis rather than a scheduled surgery.
He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has presented his work at the AANS, NASS, ISAKOS, and the Lumbar Spine Research Society.

Care Philosophy
Surgery is one tool — not the starting point.
Non-operative management is considered first whenever it is appropriate. When surgery is the right answer, the decision is made together — with a plain-language explanation of the diagnosis, the alternatives, and what an operation can and cannot fix.
